3 Technical Issues to get your teeth into...

Sep 3, 2007 at 2:41 PM

BlogEngine is incredible! My sister is posting daily from Paraguay and it's working magically.

However, I am having three issues with it which I hoped someone might know the answer to:

  • The blog does not display correctly in IE6
See these two pictures: As you can see the left hand menu has been pushed below the main body text. All of the widths in that theme are exact, and so I can't see how the right pane has manged to be wider than it should.

  • I can't correct posts manually because of caching
My sister is not the world's best speller. She has asked me to correct mistakes in her posts and in the comments other people make. I have tried just editing the xml file where each post is stored but the ap does not seem to pick up the changes, presumably something to do with caching. How do I get it to pick up the changes? I need to clear the cache buffer of something but I have no idea how.

  • Email doesn't work
Whenever someone posts a comment I get the following error message from Norton on my server I have checked the mail settings (they are the same as the one's I use with MS Outlook) but I really can't see why the mail isn't getting through. Am I just being stupid?

Any help on all/any of these much appreciated. I'll happily give more info if you let me know what you need.

Thanks for your assistance,

Hi James,

Re your second question, Recycle the application pool or (I think) download the newest source - supposedly you can edit comments using the interface, instead of going into the XML files.

I've found that recycling the pool works, but it does mean that the site takes a little longer to load up as well, for a short time.

RE: the email question.

I wasn't able to see the image you posted, but try having a look at this post:

Ok none of those links seems to work... sorry. The images are there, you just have to Copy/Paste the links, no idea why!?!

Any tips anyone on recycling the app pool in IIS5.1? I've spent the last hour on Google but there's not much for anything lower than 6.0.

My XP 'server' does a really good job seeing what I'm asking of it, but App Recycling seems a little above it. I need a little 'Xp App Pool Recycler' program but I'm struggling to find one...

just recompile or upload the BlogEngine.Core.dll file. That will recycle the restart the application and recycle the app pool
