today i've written a little extension to use the Lighbox2 js library for displaying nice image popups. You need just to copy a few files and thats it. No configuring needed. Take a look and give me a little feedback. I'll extend it in the next days to support configuring options through the admin panel. A little instruction is included in the download.

You can download and see it in action here:

Hi René, handy extension -thanks! You probably picked the best LightBox module for images.

What's your plan for creating a LightBox extension that also supports Flash, PDF or other multimedia?

How can we benefit from your great extension and integrate something like LightWindow 2.0? (

Vielen Dank ;-)

Hi Mike,

thanks for the hint. I didn't knew lightwindow before. The integration seems to be very easy. I'll extend my extension to support lightwindow too tomorrow.

Gut gemacht ;)

Wow, I'd be thrilled, thanks in advance!

Around the same time, I'll release a custom-built BE.NET version (for shared hosting plans), called ModPack. Besides supporting GoDaddy out of the box, this modified version includes some multimedia extensions (FLV, MP3, YouTube).

If you don't mind and it fits the schedule, I'll add your LightWindow extension in the latest ModPack release (more details I'll post in a separate thread)

Auf wiedersehen (and then I'll be running short on my German writing skills ;-)

Hi Mike,

i took a look at lightwindow today. There are some probs because lightbox and lightwindow share some libs. But don't worry. I get it working but i need 1 - 2 days. On my Site i added a site that shows every add-on that i code for You can take a look here: Here you'll find all updates just in time without stumbling around.

Hi René, thank you for taking LightWindow by the horns! I'll keep checking your dedicated BE.NET add-on page. Excellent job!

Great extension... however, I could not get it to work.

I have BE 1.3 and put the LightBox.cs in the Extensions folder and the LightBox folder in the root, but nothing happens when I make a new post with an image.
The extension is enabled..

What can I be missing?
How do I choose size of the thumbnails once I get it to work?

Hi Jonah!

Have you tried adding rel="lightbox" in the a href tag? So it would look like this:

<a href="" rel="lightbox">click this to show in the lightbox</a>

Just checked René's LightBox Extension website and noticed you can add capture titles too by using rel="lightbox[MyTitle]"

Oh, oki...
I was under the impression that it would add that automatically for the images.
It would be cool if the attributes could be automatically added for images in the post, and that a generic size could be set to determine the size of the thumbnails.
It would be even cooler if a separate thumbnail image could be automatically created when adding images to posts..

Maybe version 2.0? ;)

Hi Jonah,

currently i'm developing an thumbnailer extension. After i've finished it i'll extend the lightbox extension to add support for automaticly creating thumbnails and generating the proper lightbox links. I've decided to make the thumbnailer an extra extension so that you can use automatic thumbailing without the need to use lightbox. If you have any other feature requests just post them :)

That sounds awesome!

Well, the only things I can think of is that the title of the image can be extracted and used in the lightbox display, and that all images in one post, or page, automatically can be set to be the same set of images, so that next and previous buttons will show.
It would be great if there's an option to set which will determine the size of the thumbs too..

nice job!
