I recently decided to use BlogEngine as the main source of my site. After I got it running I had to incorportate some older pages into the site. These are not static pages that I could have just copied the HTML into a BlogEngine 'Page'The only way I could do this was to actuall choose the MasterPageFile for each of my original pages. This just doesn't seem right. If I wanted to change hte sites theme, these pages would be stuck on the old theme until I change them.

I've tried removing the MasterPageFile directive and I get the error of "Content controls are allowed only in content page that refrences a master page"

What do I need to do with my custom pages to get them to work?

Been there...

Try this- make your page "Inherit from BlogEngine" ... see this post:
