Pages Customizations

Apr 21, 2011 at 3:51 PM

Currently the pages are treated more like posts what would be more beneficial is for pages to be treated more like pages.

provide the ability to remove the comments box at the bottom of a page. I don't want people to comment on my page I want people to comment on my posts.

Provide a second masterpage to use for pages to customize how pages look vs posts.

I guess I wont really see this happen since this would move things more into the Content Management Arena instead of just a Blog but honestly that is the next natural step to move this to.

You can do this already, granted it takes a little coding but BE can be considerably customised with only minimal knowledge.

There are some good tips to get you started, Al Nyveldt's post on making the front page look different is certainly useful.

The ArthemiaPro  theme also contains some nice customisations, looking at the theme's master and post files reveals much of the coding for this.

Following on from that, Jitendra did a nice little post for image insertion in posts as an example of some of the other things you can do with BE.

On my own site I required blank pages, I can do a little programming but I'm not a DOT NET developer, but had these working in no time.

Search around, it's quite surprising what you can do with BE.

I gotta say I have been a huge advocate for blogengine.net ever since I first found it quite a long time ago.

I gotta say I never have thought about needing something like this before just the other day but I realized that my blog http://blog.redeyeproject.com was missing some better design features and thats what got me started into looking into this.

Thank you for your quick and thorough response on this I will be sure to be making some changes soon.

That all being said I still stick by the thought that this platform could easily be converted into a full CMS which I would absolutely love to see come to be soon.

I can't disagree with you, beyond the blog you have a blank canvass, it would be great to see what the BE guys could do with a CMS out the box.

As a tangent and not wanting to go off topic, that stuff you are writing on your blog (I like the red eye) about wp7, does that have a half decent mobile TV app and if so would you mind doing a guest post with a review or such like.

If so contact me on the profile email so as not to clutter the forum.

Take alook at what I done here:  http://www.kbdavis07.bloggersonline.com/post/PageLinkMenu.aspx

You can download the full sourcec ode here :  http://blogengine.codeplex.com/SourceControl/network/Forks/kbdavis07/PageLinkMenu2point0

My Entire website is built using this.  I use BlogEngine as a CMS.  99% of my website is pages not posts.

Once I update and make some changes to the fork hopefully it will be added into the core of BlogEngine so then there will be CMS for BE out of the box.

I am for sure for CMS For BlogEngine any additional ideals on how to make this possible please let me know.

I will work on them.

That is looking pretty cool I need to find time to actually start doing some coding to my blog site and make some of these changes. I gotta say everytime I run into someone that wants me to setup a blog for them I always recommend BE but of course they always say they want Wordpress. Of course no more then a few months down the road they start asking me to set them up with BE instead.

BE is a monster with some extreme potential I only wish more developers would start catching onto this but I guess some people cannot see greatness even when it is right in front of their eyes
