Hi, I have a fresh 2.5 install here. I have experienced this problem (today) with both xml and sql server data source (I have installed fresh 4 times today)

I can add or modify a post, but am unable to either add a user or change attributes!

I am also unable to create a new blog where I get an invalid json error.

I have set permissions on the app_data folder.

Debugging ideas as welcome as a solution would be.

localhost (on a virtual machine)

IIS 7.0

Windows 7

SQL Server 2008r2

I am using windows server 2008 r2 and was having a similar error when installing

I got this error "Could not create user: post : Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\BlogEngine.NET\App_Data\users.xml' is denied."

I google for quite some time finding out that server 2008 r2, uses a new apppool identity instead of the old "network service".

So you will need to add

iis apppool\ v4.0

to your security tab for the app_data directory (where " v4.0" is the name of your [apppool identity] in IIS). Also you may have to turn off IE enhanced seciruty option in the server manager for this to work, as from what I read the apppool users are basic user accounts.
