Most changes lost over the weekend

We've had our blog working for a couple of weeks now.  We had a couple of new users, a new theme, formatting and blog posts. Over the weekend something happened to everything except the blog posts.  They remained, but our theme, blog title and all other formatting was gone.  User accounts were gone and the default admin/admin was back again.  The aspnet user was not assigned to the app_data directory.  And the "blog" directory had been reset to "read only."  We use Visual Studio to modify these files and all files are stored in SouceSafe on our server. There are only 4 people that have access to these files and no one accessed them over the weekend.

Does anyone have any theories as to what may have happened?  Obviously this is very frustrating.

Are your blog posts stored in a SQL DB or in XML files?  If they are stored in a SQL DB, I can only think that maybe an old backup of the file system was restored this weekend.  If your blog is on your own server, you'd of course know if this happened, but if your blog is on a host somewhere, this theoretically could have happened.
