Adminstrator links

When logged in as an editor or an administrator one sees different links in the Administration Widget.  Id like to change these links or add some of my own to the Admin users.  I figured it would be as easy as updating the web.sitemap, but this does not seem to be the case s there another file that needs to be updated..

the reason I ask is that I added a 'siteMapNode' of my own and assigned it to just the administrators role but it still comes up when logged in as an editor????

I also wanted to remove the 'Pages' tab from the editors group so i removed them from the roles assigned to  that siteMapNode but it still comes up...

any ideas anyone... am i missing somthing obvious...  (i did make s ure i cleared my browser cash etc when testing)

just the job many thanks.. i new i was missing something simple.
