I've always had a high opinion of BlogEngine.NET since it was first created. Awesome blogging software, and it's also an awesome resource to learn how to implement some cool functionality within an ASP.NET web application.

Smooth installation, deployed on files and MySQL without any (major) hitch (check development.tobiasopdenbrouw.nl if you need an update on the mysql install script). Good themes. Language support. Tedka's comment below is not true for me - works like a charm.

Amazing blog engine that can run with XML files, or databases. The setup is a breeze, and it has many features you would only expect in a commercial project.

I am not even going to read previous reviews / comments. This is by far one of the nicest open source pieces of software I've come across so far. The extension manager is awesome and it is well prepared for custom theming.
Opening up the solution in Visual Studio 2008 SP1 tells me that the guys working on BlogEngine.NET clearly knows what they are doing and I love the XmlProvider!!

Great app. Love the full feature set! No doubt one of the best .NET OSS blogs out. For all those who complain about it not integrating into their existing site... c'mon. With a little effort you can do it. The first time I did it, took about an hour or two counting the learning process. On subsequent attempts, it's about a one minute process. 5 stars frome me....

Hugely pleased with this software. It plays very nicely with my shared hosting (using the default XML storage), and Windows Live Writer detected all settings and works superbly with it. Highly recommended, especially with the recently-released themes pack.

I absolutely love this blogging platform. I used it on my blog at http://blog.geekeleet.com, however I recently switched to WordPress when my site moved to http://www.geekeleet.com . The change in no way affects my opinion of BlogEngine.NET. I would still highly recommend this blog engine and think that the team has done a great job delivering it. Keep up the great work guys

I use it for everyday blogging as well as other things. It's really flexible and setup takes less than a minute. Theming is a breeze also. I'd recommend it to a bright 7 year old that understands IIS.
Admittedly, I'm biased though, I love this engine.

While a decent engine in and of itself as a stand-alone application, it is not one that can be easily added to an existing web site. So, unless you are really just looking for your own Blog Engine to stylize and host, this product lacks much use.

Thank you for the excellent blogging software.
Tried Wordpress first but was unable to set permissions to post images...I then searched for a .net blogging app and found BlogEngine.
The 1.4.5 (web) download, I found slow and had some issues...like not working with the theme pack that was just posted on Dec 12.
Downloaded the recent Source code and recompiled and now my blog loads much faster.

Make sure the Framework is 2.0!

I've change my old Wordpress (PHP) on BlogEngine (asp.NET) at new blog (http://www.salute-uomo.com) and don't regret a little. But I have some troubles studying Windows server configuration after Libux. Anyway, BlogEngine is great standalone blogging platform for me! Thanks!

Really good and stable platform for blogging, I like it a lot and are running it for several blogs by now. I would always choose this platform again.
The missing 5th star is for having some minor issues, that do not disturb functionality, but should be fixed in a future release.

BlogEngine is the best blogger in .Net, if you have a lil bit knowledge of the .net then you can modify it very efficiently.
i am using this in my blog http://www.newGenLives.com -
But we need some good themes and some more cool widgets.
I request to BlogEngine team to provide some more themes and widgets.
thanks

Great product. The new version adds some ease of use benefits like widgets, in particular the TextBox and LinkList. I'm sure 1.4.5 feels like a bug fix to some, but to me it's an incremental increase in a great open community product, that keeps getting better. Thanks Mads, and all contributors. Let's all help keep BlogEngine.NET improving monthly.

Hi,
It turned out that the 38 errors mentioned earlier were caused by an improper merge of 1.4 and 1.4.5 source files that I tried to base on file modification dates to avoid the need to start over localizing the source code even in files that remained intact between versions.
Pure 1.4.5 compiles and builds without any errors.
