Problems installing dotnetblogengine.

Oct 8, 2007 at 4:11 AM
Hi All,

I'm having some problems when installing the dotnetblogengine to either my iis or web server. I'll start with iis...

I extract all the files from the zip and create a folder in wwwroot called 'blog'. I then make 'blog' an application and apply write permissions to the 'AppData' folder. When I use the url, 'localhost/blog' the front page comes up and I log in with admin/admin. But when I attempt to make changes in the settings, I get an error regarding permissions. It requests that ASPNET has write access to the AppData folder, so I then goto the folder security settings within explorer and add ASPNET with full permissions. Still, I am unable to write to the App_Data folder.

As for my webserver, I uploaded all the files from the zip to the root folder and applied write permissions to the App_Data folder via CHMOD. But when I view the link, I receive a server error in application. My domain is set up to use the .net 2 framework also and my host is GoDaddy.

Can someone please help me with these issues as my hair is falling out trying to figure out what I've done wrong.

I did a little snooping around the site and I found a fix to my Godaddy issues :) However I still cannot run dotnetblogengine successfully on my local iis. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello cvandal,

Well it's not really clear, your configuration seems to be good (framewrok 2.0 of course).
If you access correctly to your site from an explorater on your server with an address like : http://localhost/blog it is all right.

I can tell you that, if you want to access from internet to your site, it is the "users" that must have write access to App_Data.
That's all folks.
