blogengine 2.5 and Godaddy Problems

Topics: ASP.NET 2.0, Themes
Aug 19, 2011 at 2:36 AM

I just upgraded to BlogEngine 2.5 from the old 2.0 using Godaddy`s automated service after getting an email from them. My 3 months old blog doesn`t work and I just noticed that the problem might be that because we added some plugins and themes the upgrade process was not successful. The worst part is that I`m new to blogging so I didn`t have a back up, and the rollback option in Godaddy is not working. Godaddy can`t help, I`ve no idea if it`s possible to manually upgrade it, is it??

Hi Brian

I noticed you posted some answers on the GD blog, those guys need a brain, they offer BE and have no expert to deal with it. What do you think can be done? it`s all back to where it started, me trying to figure a way to do a manual upgrade, is that possible?

Hey, I didn`t know you were so specialized in Blog Engine:

Edit: Was writing this long post as you were posting yours, so didn't see until after I posted mine :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update:

To back up just ftp everything back to your local computer.

Once you got everything transferred

Then start deleting and doing the steps below

If you want to stop now and just get your site up in about 30 mins

Email me kbdavis07@yahoo.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Best thing is to start with a Fresh  installation of BlogEngine.net

Best thing to do is use a FTP client.

Login to your server go to where BlogEngine is located.

Now select everything.

Delete everything that is there.

Once the folder is empty

1. Go here: http://rtur.net/blog/post/2009/10/30/IIS-7-e28093-Who-is-running-the-show.aspx

At the very bottom of the post there is a download for the checker.

http://rtur.net/blog/file.axd?file=2009%2f10%2fcheck.zip   <---Download Right here for you :)

Unzip it.

Ftp it to your server.

Now go to the folder /check     so  www.site.com/blog/check

This will tell you if GoDaddy as is is ready for BlogEngine.Net  If you get all green then you are ok.

If not continue with the steps in the 2nd post below.

2 Read this Post:  http://rtur.net/blog/post/2010/12/22/Hosting-BlogEngineNET-20-on-GoDaddy.aspx

If you are still having troubles

Look at these useful posts below

http://rtur.net/blog/search.aspx?q=godaddy

Armed with all of this information in theory you should beable to get it running in GoDaddy

Or the best thing to do like I did

Switch to a New Server!!!!!

You Might want to try: BloggersOnline

They offer BlogEngine.Net specific hosting.

Don't have to configure the host to make it work.

Just upload and go!!!

No modifying the web.config to get it to work or anything.

Up in about 30min tops.

You can even try the Free hosting too :)

I have used GoDaddy for hosting my BlogEngine.net website for about 10 months.

Took me about a month to get it running.

Even after it got running always had issues.

Their help is laughable.

Seeing how they treated you in the GoDaddy Community was horrible.

They offer you no help at all.

I had the same problems with them.

Email support only to get more questions from them than answers.

So that was it  I moved my site to a new server

NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER USE GODADDY HOSTING!!!

Only thing I have from them is a domain name which expires in Nov  after that I will have noting to do with them ever again.

Best thing to do is to switch otherwise you are just going to have headages the entire time.  Look at all the issues here in this forum with GoDaddy.

Do a search "GoDaddy"  you will see.

It just makes me mad seeing what they do.

Spend all this money on TV Ads and not Support.

Well thats it for me very mad over here!!!

Good luck and if you have any questions please ask.

Good Luck,

Brian Davis

Hi Brian

Thanks for the reply,  I`m just wondering because the blog worked perfectly with version 2.0 for 3 months, and it all went bad when the upgrade was done ( because GD only upgrades using basic source, and we had added some plugins and themes ). Should I still test it?

Aug 19, 2011 at 3:22 AM

I just upgraded to BlogEngine 2.5 from the old 2.0 using Godaddy`s automated service after getting an email from them.

I think thats your problem there :)

Best thing to do:

Ftp everything back to your computer.

Verity you got everything back  Count the files check the file sizes.

Sometimes you might miss a file transferring.  Also sometimes you only get part of the file.

Once you know 100% you got all of your stuff back and its ok.

Then wipe out the entire folder.

Make sure to delete everything.

Then upload the checker

I bet its going to say app_pool is not working its going to be yellow I bet you 95% thats going to be the issue :)

Do that first

Hello Brian

I just noticed that the blogs were in default pwd mode, I changed both /blog and /blogengine.net access to:
user: admin
pwd: Rsm0t257

To avoid anyone from posting spam. I hope you`re having a great time with mom, no need to reply this email. I`ll be contacting Ben in a little while.

Kind regards

Edward

Hi Brian

I made it to the database, exported some XML files including the posts. I tried to add the string to the database but was not successful. I tried the steps http://rtur.net/blog/post/2009/10/30/IIS-7-e28093-Who-is-running-the-show.aspx but still no good.
I uploaded the photos from the blogs into the file that keeps the blog photos, that was easy, and I checked all the source of the old and new one to see what needed to be changed.

It seems the web config file is the trick, but I wonder if having the /blog and the /blogengine.net at the same time requires something else, since I`ll be posting and using the one with the old path. I wish it worked the way it was, connecting it to the old DB :(

I tried to find BenAdm but it was impossible, I posted in other forums and he`s nowhere to be seen. This post was replied, they like you too: http://www.bloggersonline.com/forum/index.php?topic=295.new;topicseen#new

I hope you enjoy the weekend with family!
