Web.Config Setting (enableSessionState)

Can anyone help me understand a config setting?

It sets enableSessionState to false. I have some unrelated pages in a subdirectory and the result is that Session is null for those pages.

If I comment out the block shown below, I get build errors. However, if I change enableSessionState to true, it appears to work. However, I can't help but think that would break something somewhere.

Does anyone know about this? Here's the block in question:

<pages enableSessionState="false" enableViewStateMac="true" enableEventValidation="true" styleSheetTheme="">
	<controls>
		<add namespace="Controls" tagPrefix="blog"/>
		<add tagPrefix="asp" namespace="System.Web.UI" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
		<add tagPrefix="asp" namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
	</controls>
</pages>

Thanks!
